Abstract

This paper presents mechanical characteristics of Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) when it operates in Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) or in Continuous Conduction Mode (CCM), i.e. when the current through the phase coils (windings) flows discontinuously or continuously. Firstly, in order to maximize the output power of SRM optimization of its control parameters was performed, such that the peak and RMS values of the current do not exceed the predefined values. The optimal control parameters vs. rotation speed, as well as the corresponding characteristics of torque, power and efficiency. It is shown that with CCM the machine torque (power), at high speed, can be increased.
